Jagander credited for improving relations between Botswana, Sweden

GABORONE – Miniaster of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Lt.Gen. Mompati Merafhe has credited the outgoing Swedish ambassador to Botswana Ms Annika Jagander for the improved bilateral relations between her country and Botswana.

Speaking at her farewell party, Gen. Merafhe said Ms Jaganders personal efforts and hard work during her tenure of office have significantly contributed to the growth of relations between the countries.

He said Botswana and Sweden continue to enjoy excellent bilateral relations, which have stood the test of time and are underpinned by abiding faith in the virtues of democracy, good governance, the rule of law and respect for human rights.

The minister acknowledged, what he called the envoys personal commitment to the promotion of Botswana and the SADC Region as an investment destinations to Swedish companies.

We take pride in the fact that the modest strides we have made in our development efforts can be attributed, in large part, to the generous support we have received over the years from our cooperation partners, including your great country.

Whilst we have often lamented the fact that development assistance due to our graduation to a middle-income developing country, we are happy that friends like you (Sweden) continued to stand by our side, he said.
