South Africa: Zuma Looks to China for Boost to Rural SA

SA hopes to lure China into providing more foreign direct investment specifically for its infrastructure investment plan, President Jacob Zuma said yesterday.
Mr Zuma is on a three-day visit to China and met his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People yesterday.
The two parties also signed a “comprehensive strategic partnership” agreement and co-operation deals for mineral resources, transportation and environment management .
SA plans to use foreign direct investment to accelerate the development of rural economies, roads, transport and water supply.
“China is one of our key strategic partners in the achievement of these goals”, he said.
