Zimbabwe: Jonathan Moyo in New Succession Plot

Harare — FIVE years after he was unceremoniously kicked out of Zanu PF for allegedly plotting against President Robert Mugabe, Jonathan Moyo is back at the centre of the party’s intricate succession politics, with sources claiming he has risen to be one of the most powerful people in the country.
A high level source last week revealed that Moyo was now the main strategist in the Zanu PF faction led by Emmerson Mnangagwa and was working with security forces to manage the octogenarian leader’s exit to avoid a total disintegration of the party.
Mugabe turned 86 this year but has signalled his intention to contest future elections set for next year. Analysts say the securocrats want him to remain at the helm as a figurehead.
