South Africa: MWEB still on the hunt for bandwidth

Johannesburg – Internet service provider MWEB said on Thursday that it would continue discussions with providers to secure additional bandwidth capacity amid ongoing problems with its principal provider Seacom.

Seacom, a provider of submarine fibre-optic cable connecting communication carriers in South and East Africa, said that its services between Mumbai and Mombasa had been down since July 5.

“Current investigations indicate that a repeater has failed on segment 9 of the Seacom cable, which is offshore to the north of Mombasa.
