South Africa: Cabinet against strike chaos

Cape Town – Cabinet has condemned the trashing of cities during the recent strike by municipal workers.

“Although government welcomes the end of the strike by municipal workers following the signing of an agreement between the union and employer representatives, government condemns the continued trashing of our cities,” government spokesperson Themba Maseko told a media briefing on Thursday.

“This is totally unacceptable,” he said.

The destruction of property and throwing rubbish in the streets would never be an acceptable way of highlighting grievances, Cabinet felt.
