MPs call for passenger train restoration

GABORONE -Members of Parliament on Wednesday continued to call for the restoration of the passenger train, terminated last year after Botswana Railways incurred operating losses.

Debating the Ministry of Transport and Communications 2010/11 budget, the legislators: Mr Edwin Batshu of Nkange, Mr Pono Moatlhodi of Tonota South and Mr Nehemiah Modubule of Lobatse as well as Tswapong South MP Mr Oreeditse Molabatsi said termination of the passenger train was a disservice to Batswana.

MP Batshu said the passenger train should be reinstated to ease Batswanas transport blues while MP Moatlhodi said buses were unreliable and expensive and furthermore, it was safer to travel by rail than road.
