Government to regulate Phane harvesting

Government is working on regulations to control the harvesting of Mophane worm and thatching grass that would be presented to parliament for debate before end of this year.

Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism (MEWT) Kitso Mokaila said on Monday that the regulations have been necessitated by the fact that harvesters of the two natural resources are only concerned about profit without any regard to the importance of allowing the life cycles of the resources to be completed.

He said that he would be taking the regulations to the Cabinet and later to the House for debate.
