Improve local economy

Tshepo Mongwa reports that the Assistant Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr Charles Tibone told the same forum that local authorities should put in place income generating strategies that could assist government to bring in more revenue.

He explained that previously local authorities contributed P358 million to the government revenue, which was only 13 per cent of the total revenue. This is very low and should be improved, he said.

Local Authorities have to manage themselves through transformation to reach 2016 and revenue must be generated at local level as part of the transformation process, he said adding that the central government was strained in bringing out funds to finance local authorities.
