SEROWE – The proposed airstrip for the Serowe/Palapye Sub-District is likely to be relocated following concerns by the Morupule Colliery.
Construction of the airstrip between Serowe and Palapye is expected to commence in July this year. Mr Cletus Tangane, general manager of Morupule Colliery, said they have requested the Department of Civil Aviation to look for another site since the curent one lies on a coal seam. He said in an interview that there is a possibility of mining extenting there in the next 20 years and therefore it was unwise to put up the multi-million airstrip in the area.

Botswana’s emerging giant chain store Choppies would like to do business with local producers, but the company will not compromise on quality. Making a presentation at the Buyers and Sellers workshop yesterday, the company’s spokesperson Sadique Kebonang said they would like to have an ongoing contract with small, medium and large-scale suppliers.

“However, we cannot compromise on regulation of supply, consistency in supplies and quality of produce,” said Kebonang, who is also a Choppies director. Kebonang said that local suppliers should ensure the quality of their produce and prices relating to the current market price and said that once they sign the contract, the supplier should deliver the products nationally at the store level.
