Govt Spends P30 Million on Fingerprint Machines

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security, Bruce Palai has said Government awarded a South African based company, Sagem Security South Africa a tender to supply the Botswana Police Service with Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) in February 2008 at a value of P30 Million Pula.

Speaking at the official handing over ceremony of the devices, Palai said the government had approved a total of P30 million for the procurement of this state-of-the-art system in 2007.

“This level of investment demonstrates the Government’s commitment to adequate and necessary resourcing of the Botswana Police Service within the existing budgetary constraints,” said Palai.
