Govt must buy local products

MOCHUDI – Government departments and councils would soon have to account for how much they have purchased from local manufacturers.

Speaking in a kgotla meeting in Artesia on Tuesday, the Minister for Trade and Industry, Mrs Dorcas Makgato-Malesu said departments and councils would be required to explain why they had to buy from outside the country when local manufacturers are available.

This, she said, is meant to promote and empower local manufacturers.

She also urged local manufacturers and dealers to produce quality products that could lure customers to their businesses.

The minister also disclosed that the government is currently working on the modalities of regulating traditional brews.
