MPs dont understand councils – Moruakgomo

MOCHUDI – The Kgatleng Council chairperson, Reverend Mpho Moruakgomo says some members of Parliament are in the dark about the roles and mandates of different district councils. Opening the last session of the full council meeting before the general elections slated for October 16th, Rev Moruakgomo said people who served councils diligently are rarely recognised within the society even when it comes to National Awards. Even in national awards, those who serve or have served local councils rarely feature, he emphasised. This, he said is not surprising as many people do not understand what councils are and what they do, including some members of Parliament. He said councils are the nucleus to the welfare of the people in different facets of society.
