Money laundering

GABORONE – There are fears that some churches in Botswana may fall prey to international crime syndicates who launder money under the guise of donations and sponsorship. Consequently, the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) has warned some church leaders to wise up to such schemes.

Welcoming religious leaders at a one day workshop, Senior Asssitant Director, Ms Dudu Ncube cautioned that crime syndicates took advantage of the fact that some churches made millions within a short space of time.

The objective of the workshop was to enlighten religious leaders on the functions of the DCEC and help them identify acts of corruption within religious circles.
