Khama explains NDP 10 delay

GABORONE – The President, Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has explained why he directed that the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP 10) be delayed for at least 12 months.

The President made the revelation at the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) National Council in Gaborone on Saturday.

“I am convinced that until we are better informed about the depth and length of the current global economic situation, far too many issues are unpredictable.

“In the fiscal discipline that has kept our economy afloat and predictable for so many years, it was advisable that I should proceed with caution rather than rush an ambitious development plan when so many facets of its success are clearly dependent on world economies.
