BOTSWANA: Government Blitz to Promote Media Act

The Ministry of Communications Science and Technology has marshaled a team of about twenty reporters to defend the Media Practitioners’ Act – by “informing and educating the public about the Act”.
The Ministry held a workshop on Tuesday aimed at “establishing a common understanding of the Media Practitioners’ Act which has been bashed by both the local and international private media as ploy by government to interfere in the private media operations.”
Five reporters each from the Botswana Press Agency (BOPA), Radio Botswana, Botswana Television (Btv) and the Government Communication and Systems Office, will be tutored to write “positive stories about the Media Practitioners’ Act”.
