More specially elected MPs for BDP?

Indications are that the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is determined to ensure the Constitution is amended to increase the number of specially elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from four to eight.

In an unprecedented move, the BDP has written to all its members directing them not to oppose a motion by Mahalapye East MP Botlogile Tshireletso calling on Parliament to amend the Constitution to allow for the number of MPs to be increased from the present four.

Last year after a number of BDP women politicians were eliminated at the party’s primaries, Tshireletso announced that she would table a motion asking Parliament to increase the number of specially elected MPs to allow for more women to be nominated.
