TUTUME – Batswana have been advised to take farming seriously in order to mitigate the effects of the world economic downturn.
Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr Baledzi Gaolathe said in kgotla meetings in his Tonota North constituency that the government programme, ISPAAD came at the right time when the world was grappling with acute shortage of commodities, especially agricultural products.
He uged Batswana to take full advantage of the programme to save the country money that could otherwise be spent on imports of food products, basic ones such as maize and sorghum.
He stated that food prices were rising at an alarming rate due to the worldwide shortage of food.
